Pembrokeshire - An Alluring Place to Visit
If you adore areas of pristine beauty and raw unspoiled natural allure - then Wales' southwest coast should be on your list of destinations to visit. The romantic landscape is battered by the wind and waves of the Atlantic Ocean. Travelers can enjoy golden sands and ragged coves that go on as far as the eyes can see. Besides all of this,
Pembrokeshire offers the Preseli Mountains, which some may recognize as where the famous Stonehenge blue stones were taken.
Do you love wildlife? If so,
Pembrokeshire would be a virtual heaven for you! The landscape provides a perfect safe place for dolphins, whales, and other sealife. The land is full of exotic and rare bird colonies, and if you look hard enough, you are sure to find some species of threatened insects and plants. As a matter of fact, you'll find three nature reserve islands that allow wild life to flourish:
Were you aware that St. David is Wales' patron saint? You'll find his monastery, as well as the Cathedral and ruins here. In the old days the Celtic priests were here, and you will find their mark within the stone circles and tombs that are scattered about this lovely country. Need to see a more current version? Go take a visit to Caldey Island, it is simply a boat trip and you are able to see how monks today live!
Pembrokeshire is now a sparsely populated country, its major villages of Pembroke, Milford Haven and the lovely fishing harbour of Tenby are surrounded by luscious open countryside. It was not always the case as the many castles that are evidence to the desire for the English Kings to conquer and the Welsh Lords to defend their land. Pembroke has some of the most interesting castles in Europe, the high, exposed ramparts at Carreg Cennin, Carew with its' haunting ruined walls and Manorbier Castle - the birthplace of the famous scholar, Gerald of Wales.
For those who adore adrenaline rushes, there's Pendine Sands, where you'll find racing cars and all of the speed and excitement that goes with them. Not only can you find the Pendine race circuit, there is a museum on the beach focused on racing. British land speed records were held here for numerous years as well. For the family, you can find the interesting rides of Oakwood theme park, and more to see and do at Folley Farm.
So what's your pleasure? Discovering the ancient Celtic mysteries? Unraveling history with every turn of a castle's winding stairwell? Even if it is food - this Welsh countryside won't leave you out! So come on in and enjoy all the beauty and wonder that Pembrokeshire has to offer!
